What to Expect in a Worship Service

Music

Our music blends joy and reverence as an expression of our relationship to Christ. We sing a mix of old and new hymns and songs, led by a small group of musicians and vocalists who encourage wholehearted congregational singing.

Prayers, Scripture Reading, and Confessions

Each service includes various prayers—confession, praise & thanksgiving, and pastoral intercession. We pray for needs within our church and beyond, recognizing God’s kingdom expands far beyond Mount Vernon. We also read publicly from either the Old or New Testament and recite different creeds and confessions.

Sermons

We are devoted to expositional preaching, meaning that main point of the sermon is the main point of the biblical passage. Our sermons series usually alternate between Old and New Testaments, each message is about 50 minutes. Listen to past sermons and view our current sermon schedule.

Baptism & the Lord’s Supper

We celebrate baptism and the Lord provides and regularly celebrate the Lord’s Supper as Christ commanded. The Lord’s Supper is observed once each trimester during the morning service and monthly at the evening service. All visitors, who are baptized as believers and members in good standing of another gospel-preaching church, are welcome to partake of the Lord’s Supper.

Fellowship

We would love for you to stay after the service so we can personally welcome you to Mount Vernon.

Participation

If you are not a Christian, we’re glad you’re thinking of visiting. Please feel free to participate in the service as much as you are comfortable. We do not expect you to affirm or sing things you do not believe. You’re welcome to simply listen and observe.

Attire

On Sunday mornings, most people will be dressed in “business” or “smart casual” attire. Evening services more relaxed. You are welcome to wear something more casual or more formal.

Gather with Us

We gather weekly on Sundays and Wednesdays to worship the Lord and fellowship with one another.

Childcare & Family Ministry

We are one family, partnering with parents to show the next generation the way of Christ.

Families are welcome to have children worship with them in the service or utilize childcare.

Children of all ages are welcome in our Sunday morning worship and Sunday evening prayer services. Children’s bulletins are available at the entrances to help them participate. A Mother’s Room with a live video feed of the service is available for those caring for infants.

Families are also welcome to utilize Little Explorers childcare (newborn through age 4). First-time visitors will be asked to register their children. It’s helpful to arrive 15 minutes early to register and meet the teachers. Families with previously registered children may utilize the check-in stations. The children’s hall is located on the lower level.

During Sunday School and Wednesday Equipping Kids, classes for all ages (newborn–12th grade) are available and include different activities and age appropriate Bible teaching.
