Senior Pastor

Aaron has served as the Senior Pastor of Mount Vernon since June 2008. Aaron and his wife, Deana, are originally from Oregon and have four children. He holds a M.Div. in Biblical and Theological Studies and a Ph.D. in American Church History from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Before entering pastoral ministry, Aaron worked as a legislative assistant to the late U.S. Senator Mark O. Hatfield. He later joined the staff of Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Washington, D.C., where he also served as an elder. During seminary, Aaron served as an elder and interim pastor at Third Avenue Baptist Church in Louisville.

Aaron is actively involved in many organizations that seek to serve other churches. He hosts Feed My Sheep and FMS Pastors Wives conferences. He also serves on the admin team of the Greater Atlanta Baptist Network, is a founding board member of the Association of Churches for Missions & Evangelism, and is on the board of Reaching & Teaching Int’l Ministries and 9Marks ministry.

In addition to pastoral ministry, Aaron is an Adjunct Professor of Church History at Reformed Theological Seminary (Atlanta), the author of Character Matters (Moody, 2020) and Politics and Piety: Baptist Social Reform in America, 1770-1860 (Pickwick, 2014), and the co-author of Prioritizing Missions in the Church (Crossway, 2025).
