Is the Law Good?

After arguing that grace produces holiness while the law arouses sinful passions (Rom. 7:1–6), Paul now clarifies the law is good. Sin, not the law, is the problem. The law reveals and even increases sin in the life of the unbeliever. And, to explain why, he describes his states “in Adam” (vv. 9–11). It is Adam’s sin, not God’s righteous command, that led to the fall of Adam (and all of us “in Adam”). The law is good—we are sinful.
