Children with Special Needs

At Mount Vernon, we believe every child is uniquely created by God in his image. Our desire is for every child to delight in Jesus Christ and worship him in a loving and safe environment.

Our goal is to welcome in all children with special needs—showing them Jesus, including them in classes and activities with their peers, and creating a space where they experience belonging and growth in relationships.

For children who need one-to-one care, we offer a Special Needs Buddy system. We work to pair your child with a loving, trained volunteer who will attend their classroom with them. The buddy builds a relationship with your child as they assist them in participating in classroom activities and interacting with their peers. A buddy also allows us the flexibility to assist your child in any additional ways necessary such as visual aids, sensory toys, special equipment, etc.

If you are visiting Mount Vernon for the first time with a child who has special needs, please take a moment to tell us how we can best serve you:

If you have any questions or concerns please contact our Children’s Ministry Director, Kyle Gross or our Special Needs Coordinator, Leyna Vaughter.
